The 594th meeting of the Sydney University Chemical Society will be held on Wednesday 1st October in Le Fèvre Lecture Theatre 2 of the Chemistry Building on the campus of The University of Sydney. The speaker will be Dr Thomas Barlow, Scientific Advisor to the Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science and Training.

Having graduated with an honours degree in chemistry from Sydney University in the early 1990s, Thomas Barlow has since worked in academia, in the film industry, in journalism, and in politics. He is now the Science Policy Advisor to Brendan Nelson, the Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science, and Training. He will talk about the benefits of an education in chemistry for those who might choose to forge careers outside of the discipline.
