He returned to the ANU late 1995 as a Visiting Fellow, and in 1996 he was appointed as a Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Adelaide and promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer in 2000.
In late 2003 he moved to the School of Chemistry at The University of Sydney where his research interests include the synthesis and DNA-binding properties of platinum(II)-carborane complexes, culminating in the recent discovery of two new classes of DNA-binding agents for potential use in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT).
In collaboration with Prof. Margaret Harding he has also been involved in the construction of large inorganic macrocycles for potential application as a new class of topological DNA-binding agents known as DNA nanoshuttles.
